Haverford High School’s Shane Moran is Main Line Boys Athlete of the Week

A sophomore, Moran scored the game-winning goal with two minutes left in the Central League championship final. One day earlier, he tallied the game-winning goal in double overtime to defeat Garnet Valley in the Central League championship semifinal.

Moran missed the first half of the season with a fractured femur in his knee cap. Haverford head coach John Povey said, “The speculation was that he had a very small chance to return for this season, but he rehabbed extremely hard to be able to return in the beginning of January. His determination to return for this season really helped [us] claim the Central League title.’

Main Line Media News: You scored the game-winning goal against Ridley with two minutes left in the Central League championship final. Can you describe the unfolding of the play, and your role in it?

Shane Moran: I had just got onto the ice on a line change. Joe, my [older] brother, was circling behind the net, and he passed the puck out in front. I shot it into the top left corner of the net.
