*** does the job with arm, bat to lead Strath Haven

Alex *** did it all for Strath Haven Wednesday.

*** tossed seven shutout innings and drove in two runs as Strath Haven ousted Phoenixville, 5-0, to advance in the District 1 Class 5A playoffs.

The win moves the Panthers (15-2) into the semifinals to host No. 10 Rustin on Friday. Three of the four semifinalists will qualify for the PIAA tournament.

*** handled the sixth-seeded Phantoms. He allowed three singles, walked one batter and struck out eight. He went the distances in just 88 pitches, facing 25 batters to get 21 outs.

*** also singled and drove in two runs. Leadoff man Matt Kane doubled, went 2-for-3 and scored twice. He also drove in a run. Nick Corritore and Zane Malarkey added RBIs.

The Panthers got to Phoenixville starter Dylan Antonini on the second turn through the order with two runs in the third. Antonini, who had one of Phoenixville’s three hits, lasted 5.1 innings, allowing seven hits and five earned runs. Two-hitter Lleyton Coupe added two singles.
