Swimming: Conestoga swimmers win Central League championship

The Conestoga High School swimming and diving teams, which posted undefeated Central League regular season records, performed well at the Central League Meet Feb. 17-20.

This was the first time the Central League Meet winners would be co-champions with the dual meet season winners, so the Conestoga girls and boys had to win the CL meet to be sole champions. The point formula included 20 points for each season win, so both Pioneer squads entered the CL Meet with a 20 point advantage over their closest competitor. With their undefeated season earning the Conestoga boys 20 points going into the Central League Meet, their 428.5 point total after the CL Meet put them seven points ahead of Radnor, and made the Pioneer boys both Central League dual meet season and Central League overall champions.

When the Conestoga boys team got ready for their first swimming event, they had 13 points Devin Gaul earned with his sixth-place finish on the boards during the diving championship portion of the meet.

The CL boys meet began with a Stoga victory by the ‘A’ quad in the 200 medley relay, with Brian McKenrick, Kevin Jay, Kevin Ryle, and Oliver Brown beating the second place relay by more than two seconds, with the Stoga ‘B’ relay of Owen Neuman, Aidan McKenrick, Aidan Hunter, and Louis Conroy scoring in 10th place.
