Haverford’s Nate Frank claimed a forfeit victory in the third-place final at the Central League Singles Tournament Saturday at the Healthplex.
Frank suffered a 6-1, 6-4 loss to eventual champion Brian Grodecki of Conestoga in his semifinal match. Grodecki cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Lower Merion’s Simon Vernier in the title match.
Vernier survived a tough match with Grodecki’s Conestoga teammate, Eric Yen, in the semfinals. Vernier won, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6.
Upper Darby’s Brett Caban took fifth place with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Strath Haven’s Nick Ringle. Caban had defeated Ringle’s teammate, Xandy Hammitt, 7-5, 6-3, in the consolation semifinals while Ringle topped Radnor’s Will Frigerio, 6-4, 6-2, to reach the fifth-place match.
