SPRINGFIELD — Kyle Long didn’t even spare a sentence break on the thought last Thursday.
“It’s great,’ the Springfield freshman uttered minutes after his Cougars had wrapped up a District One title with a 7-5 win over Conestoga, “but we’ve still got one more goal, of a state championship.’
Five days later, the same mindset permeates Springfield’s preparations for the Wednesday’s PIAA Tournament opener with Hershey: That the Cougars have yet to accomplish the ultimate goal of their season.
That quest begins for Springfield, winner of 15 of its last 16, at West Chester East when District Three’s third-seeded Trojans (22-1) come calling.
